Jack of Diamonds

The Mercury Card

Our first NFT artwork ticket “The Jack Of Diamonds”  is a hive of classical symbology transcending the usual playing card tropes such as risk, skill and strategy! This is a hidden message of hope and new horizons.

Spinning in endless space and darkness as the sun is eclipsed by a full moon, he lights up the sky and allows us to glimpse another universe. Reflecting the birth of a new monetary system, this image is about revelation and suspense, new beginnings and new knowledge.

Our Jack is Mercury or Hermes the messenger God, complete with golden wings to fly on the winds of change, delivering messages at lightning speed. He emerges from a nebula, the nursery of stars, reflecting a new age of innovation, his grin suggests he has amazing news to announce.

He is God of commerce, financial gain and communication. He is the Divine Herald, spreading the word, not unlike our modern day Influencers. Mercury is a lovable rogue, who famously stole Apollo the Sun God’s sacred bulls, but ended up charming the furious God with the soothing music he played on his lyre. He eventually swapped the instrument for the herd! The lyre also became a symbol of the Sun God, reminding us of a new dawn and the transfer of treasure.

His golden staff, known as a Caduceus, symbolises conflict resolution,  a metaphor for the unifying and transcending nature of cryptocurrency, a metaphor extended by the knowledge that Mercury himself was a ‘psychopomp’ who could cross uncrossable boundaries as a spirit guide.

He sits in an seemingly impossible time and relative dimension in space, revealing himself in glimpses amongst the columns of some lost civilisation, not antiquity perhaps, but the ruins of outdated and crumbling financial institutions. He smiles as he reveals the message that a new way has been conceived. Out of darkness can come light.

Secret Symbolism - A Guide to the Diamond Hand Collection

By our Art Historian - Delyth Smith BA

Playing cards were perfect inspiration for our NFT collectibles.Traditionally the card  suits represented the battle of opposing forces and 13 lunar months, this reflects Bitcoin’s battle for acceptance in the financial world and the lunar iconography frequenting Crypto Art.

Our choice of Diamonds gives a nod of respect to the ‘diamond hands’ of the Hodler; the strength to hang on with unshakable belief. Diamonds also reflect the clarity of the blockchain itself, built to be transparent and democratise not centralise and obscure.

Our Diamond suit though, is solid gold not red, minted on the blockchain for eternal value, scarcity, proof of ownership and authenticity. They become a new gold and a new store of value like Bitcoin itself.

Diamonds were fittingly the traditional suit of merchants and commerce, they are also the fire suit, hinting at the burning passion of Bitcoiners. Fire is also symbolic of death and rebirth, like the phoenix rising from the ashes, so Bitcoin rose from the ashes of the 2007 crash, creating a new financial system. Diamonds are also associated with the Fall, reflecting the autumn of Fiat Currency.

All the cards spin in space, where the sun is eclipsed fully by the moon, these are common tropes of Crypto art. The characters all emerge from a nebula, the gas clouds that form stars, echoing the inception of the blockchain and the birth of Bitcoin.

The use of characters and symbolism from ancient myths and legends is inspired by the Renaissance, another era of great change and innovation in art and culture. From one great civilisation invariably another springs anew.
